What Is Excellence? It is being diligent, outstanding, of great quality or being the very best! As Christians we have all been called to a high standard of excellence. And so many bible passages buttress this.
In Genesis 1:28, we have been commanded to be fruitful and dominate the earth. The lackluster cannot dominate the earth. It takes a certain level of quality and being outstanding to dominate the earth. For example, tech giants in the world today such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
Proverbs 13:4 advises against being lazy and uninterested. The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
Proverbs 22:29 says, “Have you seen a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” If you are diligent, you would be outstanding. Without any doubt, diligence is a mandatory tool for success in life.
However, whilst people may pursue excellence, they may overlook manifesting the fruits of the spirit. Today, let us examine ourselves and determine what fruits we are exhibiting. When Jesus asked us to abide in Him, the idea was that we should be close enough to Him to exhibit His style or traits and character in everything we do. So, an important question to ask ourselves is if our excellence represents Jesus.
1 Corinthians 13 admonishes us to not be so carried away by our gifts, that we avoid manifesting the fruit of the spirit, which are Love, Peace, Joy, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Long suffering, Self -control, Faithfulness.
In Mark 12:23, Jesus advises us to love God with all our heart and with all our understanding and to love our neighbours. Love is described as being more important than just being excellent.
No matter how successful in the world we are, we have not completely met the fruitfulness mandate according to Kingdom standards, if we do not manifest the fruit of the spirit, of which, love trumps all.
As we celebrate this month for its unique message of ‘Love’, and any other month for that matter, remember there is a mandate to excel, but an even greater mandate to Love.
Whether it is in ministry, family and or the marketplace, manifest your fruit of Love because by their true fruits, you shall know them.
